‘Like me.’

I am not my Hair, but hair remains a remarkably important source of identity for me.

As for others.

Obama photo

‘President Barack Obama bends over so the son of a White House staff member can pat his head during a family visit to the Oval Office May 8, 2009. The youngster wanted to see if the President’s haircut felt like his own.’ (c/o the White house Flickr feed).

Someone ‘Like Me’ in the White House. This pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it? And to think that, for these children, this moment precedes and determines so many years of wrestling with their racial identities.

This is so precious.

Too-cool-for-sKool-Aid.

Remember when Kool-Aid used to target a primarily white audience?

I don’t. But once upon a time:

Which strikes me as odd, because the Kool-Aid commercials I grew up with were more like this:

I couldn’t find a real example. Just imagine they’re drinking Kool-Aid .

Am I complete crazy, here? Wasn’t there a time when Kool-Aid commercials targeted the African American market? I remember noting as a child how often the people in Kool-Aid commercials ‘looked like me.’

It’s funny to see these ads. Were blacks buying Kool-Aid in the 1950’s?

#93.

Wouldn’t it have been cuter if she were #44?

Michelle Obama was named the 93rd hottest woman in the world by Maxim magazine late last week — above Padma Lakshmi, as the Huff Post notes.

True validation? Having it confirmed that you’re the meat of whiteboy sex fantasies world over. Well done.

New Digs.

Whaddaya think?

As the end of my college career grows ever-closer — three weeks, and counting — it’s become apparent to me that the old blog, which defined so much of my life as a college student, needed to be refashioned. For one, “HarvardHair” would be rendered inappropriate as of June 4.

For another, I didn’t want to continue being defined by something I was no longer able to relate to. I stopped blogging for a few months in part because I felt alienated from my own blog.

So, I’ve changed domains, gone for a sleeker look and severed myself from the soon-to-be alma mater. I’ve also streamlined content by whittling my previous 450+ posts down to about 130, and have created a separate page (“Haute Cult(o)ure”) for my musical and literary interests, though brief posts will appear on the main page.

I’ve retained the old name, though posts here appear under “WeThePeople” rather than “Miles Davis,” and I’ve done my best to eradicate my name from the blog for now.

Anyhow. These are the new digs. Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts. And don’t forget to pay your respects.

The New York Post finds this funny. Do you?

(References recent chimpanzee attack — but one wonders what else.)
