I am not my Hair, but hair remains a remarkably important source of identity for me.
As for others.
‘President Barack Obama bends over so the son of a White House staff member can pat his head during a family visit to the Oval Office May 8, 2009. The youngster wanted to see if the President’s haircut felt like his own.’ (c/o the White house Flickr feed).
Someone ‘Like Me’ in the White House. This pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it? And to think that, for these children, this moment precedes and determines so many years of wrestling with their racial identities.
This is so precious.

Beautiful picture, but even more beautiful when you realise that this young boy will have to struggle far less with his racial identity than the generations before him.
